I have no clue what this is. The dirt was really thick on it but I brought it home just because of the wierd shape. I wish I had a insitu pic from the field but didn't think it was anything at the time. It's 1 7/8 by 1 3/4. It has a pottery like texture to it (maybe a little harder). I cleaned it carefully with water and barely scrubbed it. I found this on the same day on my last hunt post 7-8-24

It looks very much like a potter's anvil, a tool for shaping clay used in the paddle and anvil pottery technique. I have a similar one, also made of clay, which I bought from a Pai Pai Indian potter in Baja California many years ago. I don't remember ever having seen such a small example before. Perhaps it was made for especially delicate work, or as a child's toy. Or perhaps it is something else entirely. If you do an internet search for "potters anvil" you will find similar examples made of wood and clay.

Had me curious, so I googled potter’s anvil and clay jug stoppers I’m team anvil now, I was surprised how quickly artifact related searches came up including one that was very very similar… as far as clay stoppers they do exist but I had to dig quite a bit more and didn’t see anything as close as the anvil examples
