Now for your 2 cents worth. "WHADIFIND"?
The "ball" is solid lead with a hole thru it. Has to be pretty old!
Lead takes a long time to achieve that level of white oxidation!

Thanks for peeking!

FISHY SAYS TWO PENNIES FOR YOUR THOUGHTS BLINGIE. NICE FINDS

Getting out in the fresh air and detecting is sometimes all you need. :icon_thumleft:

Whadi.if used for a sinker it would stay down.
I'd be inclined to just say a weight and move on. But, I found this in a farmfield about a million miles from any water. ;)

I understand it could be for *anything* needing extra weight tho.

With this being in the ground a long, long time. I suspect that a lot of the cuts & dings are from the plows over the years. The thing that caught my attention, (besides it being the biggest minie "bullet" I've *EVER* seen! ;) ), is that lead takes a really long time to turn this white!

It could be a counter weight in a plumbing operation, all the way to some sort of string of cannon shot.

I really haven't a clue. But we all like puzzles. :)
Thanks!

But you did find a fish too so maybe they were sand fishing.

Nice finds on the Wheats Whadi. The piece of lead could have been fashioned to be used as a window weight or clock weight also. Depending on if there was a home at the field site you were searching.

My uncle has a small farm, used to be a medium size dairy farm. I've detected his fields and found coins and " things", like everyone here. I have no doubt that some of the things I found WERE NOT dropped in the fields, but in the barn or outside and pushed into the manure pit, then spread on to the fields. So just because the lead ball was found out there, doesn't mean it wasn't dropped elsewhere.
It could be anything. A weight for a light pull perhaps.
