Thanks Jeff, my daughter nearly broke her neck to show me but she doesn't realize what a good find she made. The center didn't show up good on the scan, it is a half moon (or a "c") surrounded by 10 stars. It was only 3inches deep (everything was) due to the slate iin the ground (mountaintop). I am an old head at this but this find has me baffled. Thanks again Jeff, ......Charlie

That is what I'm thinking. The only thing's deep around there are where the trenches were. I dug a foot long section of a cannon anchor out at 12 inches and my father (soon to be 60) dug an axehead at 13 inches. (I won't mention the other goodies at the same depth's) But with the homesite so close and the dime there it has me confused. I know that around the turn of the century (1900) folks were digging cannonballs out of this place and that the children would play in the holes (emplacements). So this is surely going to be an adventure. By the way, the medal/ccharm was found about 20 feet behind the emplecement's, on the very crest of the hill where the soil is very shallow.
