Me and my father took my two daughters detecting yesterday. I have been researching a rev. war skirmish site for awhile now so we decided to hit it . It took us 3 hrs. to walk to it :P and we only detected for 45 minutes. While my father dug up an axehead my 10 yr. old daughter began swinging her detector and in less than two step's hit this. Now here is the problem...it is gold and is in perfect condition, and is a medal of some sort. I have tried to post a photo of it on the forum but get a "database error" I have never posted a photo before. I'll describe it.. a crown with red highlights and a white maltese cross. In the center of the cross is a quarter moon surrounded by ten stars and a black background. On top of the object is a knight's head and there are crossed sword's extending through the thing. Like I said this site dates from the 1700's however ther was a homesite nearby that was occupied up till 1925.(my other daughter found a 1918 dime) So there is the time frame folks and please help if you can. This is a virgin site with alot of relics but with all the relics my father and I dug there was nothing a beutiful as that gold coming out of the ground!!! Thanks for any help you guy's might give in identifiying this thing.
