I didn't see anything in the article that would insinuate alcohol was involved.

That is a possible, though unlikely size for a python or other constrictor. I also think it is likely bigger in the fear and retelling.

Sounds like a python to me,
Standing with its head at a height of 10 feet,, yep I would looked definitely try to get back to the safety of town real quick.
