Giant find from Saturday's Western Mass cellar hole hunt

Went to scout some new cellar holes Saturday down an abandoned road by my house. As I walked down the path perhaps only 50 yards from my car I heard some rustling in the trees. I looked up and there she was, only about 30 yards in front of me. She's full grown, about 6 feet at he shoulder, and probably 750 pounds. She stood there for about 5 minutes and just looking at me and eating oak leaves. She showed no signs of aggression and did not appear to have a calf with her (though there could have been one bedded down near by). She only moved out of the way when I began talking to her and continued down the path. She barely stepped aside to let me by. Two hours later on my way out of the woods I heard the rustling sound again in the same spot. As I passed, she poked her head through the bushes not more than 20 feet away. It reminded me of that scene in Jurassic Park when the Raptor ambushed the game warden. I think I may have even muttered "clever girl" as I walked by her.

They are massive animals, nice.

Nice I would have been a trophy on her wall!
At lest she looked both ways for you to make sure no humans ran you over!

Nice you have a connection with the animals.

Very, very cool, They can be the scarriest beasts on land if in a bad mood.

Im glad it wasn't a bull during the rut. I'll avoid that area in the Fall, moose sign was everywhere. Hers were not the biggest tracks I saw that day.

Moose meat is VERY tasty!:laughing7:

NICE encounter Jason,at least you got to walk away dude.............whole!:laughing7:

If only we had an archery season for moose. At 30 yards I can shoot a flea off a dogs behind with my bow and she gave me a perfect broadside and quartering away shot.

It's amazing that you saw the moose that close up (not as fun if it was an aggressive bull moose). I was walking on a hiking trail at dusk last week, and out of nowhere, a deer leaped across the trail.

I wonder what that would have registered as on my Garrete Ace 350?

Cool pic man!
I've never seen one in the wild.....I can't wait.

Oxbowbarefoot = Moose Whisperer !!!

Cool post Oxbow, I would rather see them like that then in my headlights.
ZDD

Speaking of that. Here's one from Maine last month. The driver walked away with only a few scratches.

The driver in the picture is lucky to be alive. I had a couple close calls driving through Jackman, Maine a few years back. Driving was like moose slalom, they were everywhere.

Wow what a beauty that would have made my day to come into contact with a Moose like that..

Awesome you don't see then often. I lived in maine for 6 years and never saw one then I moved back to ct and I've seen three just in the past year.

Sent from my iPod touch using TreasureNet
