Detector(s) used
XLT, Silvermax, Compadre
All-

New username to the forum, but I used to post long ago. Just got a new detector after some years and I have the fever again.

Going to a little known "ghost hamlet" I guess you'd call it...wondering if you guys have any tips that I may have not thought of.

I will be checking anywhere that caches would "commonly" be found, tree stumps, markers, whatever..will be checking the walls and floorboards as well.

Any other ideas or tales of glory?

Thanks!

:-\ oh well

I went and only found an old belt buckle. Too much Tin around.

get back there and dig dagnabbit >:(

seriously what detector do you have?maybe a smaller coil is in order.
did you see any paths or did you find any hints of focal points for this habitation.
any brush or debris worth moving?

Can't win em all!!! You tried. I don't know what you are using... but a good sign is an indent in the ground from the hole settling. If I'm hunting a big tree I work in a spiral motion moving out.
RD :)

Thanks. I spent 9.5 hrs total, with about 5 of those hours detecting. I used a Tesoro Silvermax, I've used all the high end detectors, I like this one the best. I brought my Compadre with me too, coil being 5.75 inches I was of course able to work in between *some* trash.

Thing is, I usually find silver (at least one) everytime I go to an old site. This place had THOUSANDS of pieces of tin, coin size...everywhere. The foundations were intact, it's just that those pieces of tin were so bothersome.

Oh yeah, I did find some old bottles, a piece of iron with some wording on it, and an awesome long arrowhead.

There were some more buildings that I didn't check out, but the super rough hike there may preclude me from going again, unless I invest in a dirtbike!

Will be checking some tilled fields around here that have produced some Reales :D

Thanks for the comments all

I hear ya.... I usualy find atleast one coin from a cellar hole site, but not every time.I have a silvermax
also that I am going to bring back to an iron infested hole that skunked my xlt even with 6 inch coil.

Well no silver for me today :) But I hear ya on the cellar holes, good stuff!

I forgot to mention that the place was littered with old brass casings, ranchers really like to shoot things!

I'm so tired, off to bed thanks for the posts!

No pictures? Shame on you! ;)

actually I do have some pics of the house I was searching, been busy at work but I will post them tomorrow!

I don't really have the time to resize if someone wants I'll send them the pics via email? Pretty cool old house.

was just putting it out there because someone could email ME, i broke the ice :P but I guess I should learn to make the pics smaller anyway. Oh well, g'night!

And thanks for the service comment, I'm a veteran of 2 branches of the Armed Forces, currently an Army Civilian.

Anyway if anyone is interested in seeing the pics I guess they could email me, I dunno, I'm so tired from the hike I'm delirious, so forgive me :D
