Ace 250
I ordered the Garrett Ace 250 today and will get it on Wednesday! My Bounty Hunter Discovery 1100 has found a lot of goodies but I really need the pinpointing feature of the Ace! So hubby will get to use the BH since he doesn't have a lot of time to do much detecting right now..and I go everyday! He's not addicted YET. Can't wait to get the "yeller feller"!

My Father in law also worked for them for 30 years but he is retired now and works at Walmart there to keep busy. We have lived there for quite awhile so if should need any help in areas we MIGHT be able to help. ;D

Bull.. the Walmart in Susanville? Is his name Daryl by any chance? My hubby knows all the former school retired employees I think. You live in Susanville now? or use to? Walmart is the biggest store in town as you know..so I practically live there! I would appreciate any lead on places to hunt in Susanville.. I'm not originally from here... I moved here 6 years ago to get married to my dear hubby! Thanks!

YES his name is Darrel Vermillion and he is my father-in- law. Tell him you know Lucky Johnson(my name) and that I said for him to tell you where some old sites are. He does a lot of varmit hunting around there also and etc so he KNOWS lots of places. Hopefully he can help you better than I could( he has lives there since 1971) but if not I will try to remember some places that should be good.

Have you researched the area north of the college? That area was something but damn if I can remember what it was.

Also there is a stream down by Doyle I believe that was supposed to be an old gold panning area that people say still has lots of gold in it. At least that is the rumor ;D I just got into metal detecting ( 1 month now)so I am going from memory of hunting and what I heard etc.

Out in the Standish/Litchfield area there are lots of old houses etc. Have you also checked out the old train station in Wendall, out by the power plant? Also Westwood was an old logging area and there are lots of old houses out there.

I will try to come up with some other areas as well. It would be easier if you can tell me which ones you have hit so I can eliminate those areas.

I live in Central Florida my home state and we have been here for the last 7 years and have no plans to move back to Susanville area other than visiting the in laws.

Please let me know what happens in your follow up with him ;D

Thanks for all the good tips.. some I've thought about..some I haven't. My hubby (Leroy), knows Darrel and worked with him at one of the schools before Darrel retired..and we'll go to Walmart and have a talk with him about your reply. Thanks a lot for your help.. when you get this way again.. give us a holler!

Hope you find lots of stuff, and remember I only wnat 30% of the finds! ;D ;D Just kidding! Good luck and tell him I said to help you! ;) Also if I can remember anything else about the area I will let you know.

I know I have seen and been to 100's of old homesites out there, but I was NOT into detecting at the time, now I just have to remember WHERE they all are.

We may be out next year sometime, if we do we will try to hook up with you ;D

Let us know how you do on the sites. ;)
