I found this in along a riverbank in St.Cloud, Minnesota. Is there any way to tell if it is authentic or a replica necklace? Sorry I don't have a better picture I can't find the good camera.
Mine has seen a amount of rust, the only thing that keeps me from believing it is a replica is the inner portion of the cross, where i've read was a black enamel is the only part that is rusty the outside silver portion is untouched by rust?

If You get a magnet and it sticks to it, that is a good sign, also look on the hanger loop on top and see if there are any markings around it. You may need a magnifying glass.
the one area in which the copies of the iron cross fail to match, is the solder between the halves...front and back connection.
if the solder line is solid...no space between the halves, it is likely an original.
all of the stamps and dies are suspect, since there was(is) a large market for these crosses....the forgers just can't get that solder line...
