Recovered this German jeton? from Dundalk.Maryland last month. Since Dundalk is near the water, this could have been lost by an early settler. This could just as well have been a keepsake that haad been handed down and was lost in recent times. The limited information I've found online indicates that the standing figure on the obverse is Cupid. This much makes sense in that the figure has a bow in the left hand and an arrow in the right. The German words I'm able to make out are Liebe Und Friede, which translate "love and peace", so that much would suggest the figure is Cupid. The figure stands on a horizontal line at the base of the obversev and below that line is the work "ILTON", perhaps standing for "jeton". The disc is about the diameter of an American nickel and is very thin, about a quarter millimeter. It has been holed at about 11 o'clock. There are words on the reverse but I cannot make enough of that out to come up with any recognizable words. I've attached the best pictures I'm able to take at present.
So, what is it?
