German 800 silver from Antique Store

Drove my son to Montgomery, Alabama to hang out with a friend. After dropping him off, I got to explore some thrift and antique stores. My best pick up by far (and one of the best of the year) was this 800 German silver gravy bowl. Priced at $18.00, it weighs in at 535 grams. I get happy when I find silver that isn't marked sterling. I've noticed that many vintage German alloy pieces do have their own distinct design. I have a little coffee cup and plate set of German made silver I believe was also made by Adolf Kander

Some over looked 80% silver from Germany

Found this yesterday at an indoor Flea Market. It's a cup & saucer made by a German silversmith named Adolf Kander. I'm out on business til maybe Saturday this week and I don't have my scale, but it feels kinda hefty for it's size. It's definitely worth more in silver weight then I got it for...

Adolf Kander it is. Although the link you found dates Kander from 1882-1939, the 'crescent and crown' mark was first introduced in 1886.

I just looked at the cup and plate you found. You said they had "heft." That is what I thought when I picked up this piece--it is so thick and hefty I was sure it was plated. Kander seems to have been generous with silver.

Every big piece of silver I have found has had European markings. People mostly know what "sterling" and "925 is.
