I recently found this in the Lowcountry, and I'm having a hard time finding out what this thing is. I believe it may be some type of hat pin worn by loyalists of King George, but I can't find much more information than that. The letters inside are G and R, and there's definitely a place on the back where a pin used to be. Any help would be much appreciated! The first picture show the front, the second picture shows the back.

Re: Georgivus Rex?

Here are some Ideas.
1) Pic.

WWI Silver War Badge
Silver 33 1914-1918

supersize

Description: The badge is circular in shape with the words "For King and empire" and "Services rendered" around the rim, and a voided cipher and crown of King George V in the centre.
The reverse has the remains of the hinge for the pin. Engraved on the reverse is B194358.

The Silver War Badge was a First World War badge authorised for issue to members of the armed forces of the British empire. It was granted to those who had served since 4 August 1914. In the case of officers the badge was issued to those who had retired or relinquished their commissions. The badge was issued to other ranks who had been discharged on account of age, wounds or sickness, such as would render them permanently unfit for further service.
The perpose of the badge was to prevent men of military age but not in uniform from being harassed by women pursuing them with white feathers.

Re: Georgivus Rex?

Thanks Timekiller! But why wouldn't mine have any writing around the edge like these do? Other than that, what you've found is an exact duplicate!

Re: Georgivus Rex?

I'm not 100% sure, but it sure does match the photo of a Butler's Rangers Brass cartridge box badge, Rev War era. Ref: Page 226 Item 16 in Collector's Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution by Neumann and Kravic. If not Butler's rangers it is still a 1700s British Cartridge badge IMHO.
