Tenderfoot
Hello, Treasure Netters! I've been a member for about a month, and figured it was about time I introduced myself. I am a 47-year-old Army veteran (98G-Russian) from around the Augusta, Georgia area. I teach high school English at the Academy of Richmond County (founded in 1783 and once visited by George Washington; talk about HISTORY!), I'm married and have three daughters, and my wife and I founded an Americana band in 2001 called Livingroom Legends. We rock! 8)
Recently I got into metal detecting! I'd been thinking about it for years, but finally made the plunge late this past summer, and bought a Garrett Ace 250. (I've since bought a Lesche and a Garrett Pro Pointer, and a sand sifter I've yet to use.) Until I began researching the hobby, I hadn't been to this site.
We live in a house that was constructed (partially) in the late 1700s, so for the last few months I've been digging up tons of old square-head nails, rusted iron, and the occasional odds and ends, practicing my plug digging and getting to know the machine, and hoping to find at least one old coin. My craziest find was a solid metal box that weighs about 20 pounds or so, and was used as a dog casket. Creepy. (My wife took pictures and I'll hopefully post them one day!)
I recently went to a nearby park that's not too old and found about 20 clad coins ($1.51) in roughly 2.5 hours. Man, after all those nails, I felt like a metal detecting champ!
This site has been a blessing, and I've learned a lot from reading the posts. Thanks to those who started and maintain it! I hope to have lots more enjoyment in this new hobby! Thank you!
