Re: GEORGE'S WOODEN TEETH MY STRANGEST FIND YET.

well this is just wrong....
I think I would be looking for more parts....
too bad there wasnt gold in the fillings...

My friend is a dental lab assistant...she said they are probally dentures that aged from being outside to look like wood....put them in a warm glass ofwater witha dental cleaner tablet....and when clean..they might have a persons name on the inside ...thats how the lab identifies/marks them

Re: GEORGE'S WOODEN TEETH MY STRANGEST FIND YET.

NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT BEING BONE. BUT THEY SPLINTER LIKE WOOD. ALSO WAS TOLD IT WAS WOOD. IF ANYONE KNOWS IF THEY WERE EVER MADE WITH WOOD WOULD LIKE TO KNOW. THANKS AND I DIDNT FIND ANY MORE PARTS LOL.

Re: GEORGE'S WOODEN TEETH MY STRANGEST FIND YET.

That's the second set of teeth I've seen on here. That would just totally creep me out finding something like that...
Good luck, & Happy hunting~

Re: GEORGE'S WOODEN TEETH MY STRANGEST FIND YET.

Are the teeth loose? Pull one out and see if it has roots.

His physical presence was impressive, and he literally towered over most other men. In an age when people were generally much shorter than they are now, Washington was about six-foot-two and powerfully built, weighing over 175 pounds. Contrary to popular belief, he probably did not wear wooden dentures, but had a number of dentures made of ivory, lead, and even from the teeth of animals.

President Washington lost his teeth at a relatively early age. He suffered from poor dental health throughout his younger years. He had two sets of false teeth (dentures) made by the most prominent American dentist of his day, Dr. John Greenwood. They were carved from the finest hippopotamus ivory and gold. One of the sets was donated to the University of Maryland Dental School in Baltimore, the oldest dental college in the world. The dental school in turn loaned one of the dentures to the Smithsonian in 1976 for a bicentennial exhibit. The denture was stolen from a storage area of the Smithsonian (presumably for its gold content) and has never been recovered.

For me, the most interesting part of the story about George?s teeth is the mechanism of their fabrication. The upper and lower gold plates were connected by springs which pushed the upper and lower plates against the upper and lower ridges of his mouth to hold them in place. Washington actually had to actively close his jaws together to make his teeth bite together. If he relaxed, his mouth would pop open. There is speculation that this is the reason that the Father of Our Country always looks so stern in his portraits. Take a look at a dollar bill. George isn?t upset - he?s just trying to keep his teeth in!!!

Interesting find!? Take a fine sandpaper to an inconspicuous spot and see what turns up.? I absolutely would not pluck a tooth.

Why not? If it's real, the tooth should be loose and it will come out easily. He already said that it will splinter. If it's some kind of wooden denture, then I don't know. Try the denture cleaner.

Re: GEORGE'S WOODEN TEETH MY STRANGEST FIND YET.

??? Have you thought of turning it into the police? There just may be a body out there somewhere and a family waiting to know where their loved one is. ;D
Just a thought , watch the news and forensic shows too much, maybe. But not many people go and lose their teeth outside! LOL

My thought is it doesn't make sense that it would be wood, and have the teeth it has. So if you turned it in they would let you know if it was normal teeth or something else.

Re: GEORGE'S WOODEN TEETH MY STRANGEST FIND YET.

It has to be some kind of dentures. If it were a piece of the jaw bone or upper pallet, you would see more of the root of the tooth since the gums and tissue have long rotted away.

Either way, there still could be the remains of a body in the area! I think it still should be reported to local officials!

Cool find! But do the right thing! You may have solved a Cold Case File!

yes, they should check this against missing persons dental records for the region.

Re: GEORGE'S WOODEN TEETH MY STRANGEST FIND YET.

Re: GEORGE'S WOODEN TEETH MY STRANGEST FIND YET.

Thought I would chime in here and quote a few of you with my response.............

"Are the teeth loose? Pull one out and see if it has roots." ~~~~~ bigcypresshunter

Cypress, that's just gross! :o

"Someone needs to brush their teeth better, look at all that plaque" ~~~~ JakePhelps

Jake, I think this is why the guy had dentures to begin with! As they say old habits are hard to break.....or should I say the lack of habit in this case. :D

"Flog em on ebay. I'll bet someone would buy a pair of old used dentures. BTW, did you try them out?" ~~~ DJ_Quinn

Quinn, I don't even want to begin to understand that statement. I feel queezy thinking about it. :P

"Then it may be time to call in the CSI team....with Cathryn.....huba huba!" ~~~~ stimpy17

Stimpy, I couldn't agree with you more!!

Anyhow, that is one creepy dig you have there, I hope I never get a dig like that. I would prefer a year's worth of pull tabs over that find.......seriously.

Maverick
