Hi;

This is how I normally find the old coppers. Not rotten, just pocket worn or beat up beyond ID. As you can tell by the patina whatever happened to this coin happened a long time ago. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out if this coin had been hammered/tampered with or whether it is just a very crude counterfeit.

Looking at a link that IP posted a while back, I'm figuring this is a George II half pence.

Opinions?

Yes, it's a George II young head 1729-1739. It's damage, because the damage is what is making George look strange, plus the reverse has a pretty typical looking Britannia. On the crude counterfeits there tends to be a fairly noticeable difference compared to the genuine looking coins.

Thanks IP:thumbsup:. Appreciate you taking the time to put a date range on it as I will be including it in a display case I am putting together for the land owner.
