whassup every body....im goin on my second geode hunting trip in april in keokuck iowa. Im gonna check out a few of the mines, but does anyone have any "off the beaten path" spots they would share? I would really love to get a snowball or diamond drop. Last time i went it was right after the geode fest, so the whole area was picked over, but found alot of nice quarts and citrine geodes at jacobs geode mine.

Almost all the good places are private now

The one exception I know of is to walk the banks of the Des Moines river when the water is low. The geodes will have washed right out of the rock and be lying on sandbars or the bank. Problem, inevitably you will be far from your vehicle carrying a bucket of geodes. But if that is your picture you don't look like you'll mind.

Use the internet to tell you the water level of the Des Moines, usually August and September are best but the "early bird" thing matters.

Good luck!
