Found these two together where there was once a gate, I suspect. I do not recognize any maker with these initials, but then again I don't know which way to read it. It is either a WH or a HM depending on whether you look at them upside down or not. Any ideas on who it is and how old they may be. The property had seen many layers of occupation so the age may depend on what I learn from you all. Thanks in advance...vn

They look cast, so marks could be foundry id...neat looking pieces.

Yes Happy Camper they do appear to be cast but they do have their little differences, possibly from wear and tear and a little tweak that one has. I am putting up clearer photos to see better.

Think MH is the best bet..looks more likely to me...This google search comes up with foundry in Illinios 1912 ..Foundry - Google Books

That does seem to fit the bill, I looked into it and the company specialized in drinking fountains and faucets made of iron from as early as 1910 to 1917. They were bought out and a brass foundry was added. The hinges though seem to be earlier than that, and because I can't seem to trace that company back farther than 1910, it leaves me still wondering a bit just when the MH got started. I am off to a good start anyways, thanks.

Hello villagenut. Nice finds, I have found a few similar to yours over the years without any engraving.

Not sure but it seems like hinges of this type have been ID'd as belonging to old-time ice boxes.

Good luck and thanks for the post. C9

I looked into the icebox hinge and do not find any similar but this "other hinge"I have looks more like those examples although I had always attributed it to a steamer trunk hinges.
