I found this nifty gas cap, but I would like to know what it goes to? The dime that was in it had been circulated very little. I would guess that it is from the early to mid twenties based on the date of the dime.

Is it to a car? a lawnmower? I am actually hoping someone can tell me that it came from a car and what brand it was.

Thanks for your help

Looks like an older Boat Gas Cap, to differentiate from water tank.

Could be from a gas can!

Agree! Back in the days when cars had running boards, you could get gas and water cans that would mount on them. I'm guessing the dime was put there to make sure there was money to get some gas. Back then a dime would buy you gallon...

That might explain why it seemed to be stuck to the cap. I am hoping that I will be able to clean it up and remove what ever was sticking it to the cap. My thought was that someone had removed their cap from their pocket and it dragged a dime out with it. But having it stuck to the cap makes more sense. Thanks.

I love all the ideas. I will wait for a few days before I say solved, in the mean time keep the ideas coming.
