I dont know if their is something wrong with my detector or not. When I sweep from side to side it seems to beep randomly. Is that normel? I tried doing my own test with pocket change on the factory settings. when tossed on open ground it worked fine but when
buried under 3 inches of soil it would have a hard time if at all detecting any of the change. I dont know if it needs to be tuned up or the random beeping is normal. I only payed $40 for it its not like Im out any thing really. Its my first metal dector so I dont know what to expect. Any thoughts or words of advice?

My suggestion would be to send it back to Garrett for an evaluation. I hunted alongside a guy using this machine in some hot ground in VA and he was able to recover several targets that others had passed over. Worth the cost of postage for sure.

I have a Garrett gtxa-1000 that did exactly that. That thing you mention of random beeps at the end of each swing !
It was the coil (the white colored dish plate type) itself ! Replaced it with a new coil. Random beeps at the end of each swing,, are now a thing of the past. :)
Replace the coil :) !
For me I had to give the registration number and model to a dealer. Two months later I had a new coil in the new black epoxy shape. Works like a treat now :)

Usually this is caused by just dirt in the coil cover, so take it off and clean it out. As far as not being able to pick up those buried coins this might be caused by the wrong ground balance.

Do you have a manual for your detector? If not go to Garrett.com and download a PDF of it. Read it and learn how to adjust it. Do that before you send it in.

Yeah I did what it said still seems to do the same. If the is wet could that have something to do with it
