Garrett's Sea Hunter II is one fine PI unit. I used to use one years ago but got older and found it could find targers deeper in the sand than I cared to want to dig. I didn't like it in fresh water even when using the Dscrete Trash Mode as hair pins can last a long time in fresh water unlike salt water where they rust away fast. It will however find many targets deep in the muck. Since muck and silt in fresh water can hold a gold ring at two foot or more, the pulse is the only way to get at them besides dredging the silt to sift for the goodies. Dredging did the job, but I classified that as more like work and not detecting.

But you should enjoy it a lot. I never had any problems with the coil wanting to float like with the White's water detectors. For them you needed to have a weighted sock taped to the shaft to hold it near the bottom. Battery usage seemed to be above average for a pulse unit I thought.

Good Luck,
Sandman

Using the Sea Hunter Mark II or other Pulse units properly calls for some special techniques. The book by Clive James Clynick on the use of pulse detectors says it better and with more words that I have. A must reading for even VLF hunters.

I ordered that book last fall. It is full of fantastic information, regardless of which PI unit you use.

I will probably buy another. I think it's a great PI and doesn't get the attention it deserves.

Get ready to dig, and dig everything in the beginning ! you will learn it quick. I only use mine in salt water and the beach, and it works very well for me.Its damn solid build easy to use and deep. I never use the disc mode and digging it all, i look at my self as a beachcleaner. I think this is a good way to do it, and it pays back. Dig everything even the dobbelbeep and you learn, i learn that there is good and bad dobbelbeep to.It might be a ring or a coin in difficult position.Always reliable to me, a god detector.

Good Luck Normann

I've had one for about three years now, still like it. I've had it down to about 90 feet deep with no leaks. It will detect stuff deeper than you want to dig sometimes! I've found clad coins well over a foot deep.

I have only had my Sea Hunter for two weeks and I must say it does go very deep. You want the depth to find tose deep heavy items.

Just got my Sea Hunter today. Can't wait to get out and dig, dig, dig. Are you guys using coil covers on the Sea Hunter??
Cindy

Cindy we have to use coil covers on all detectors to save wearing the plastic thin on the edges. Coils are more expensive than covers.

Course you can always coat the coil with Marine Epoxy to protect the plastic from wear. This way it also saves you from having black sand get inside the cover to mess up it's stability.

Thanks Sandman,
I have coil covers on my other detectors. I just didn't see any listed for the Sea Hunter. I think I may due the Marine Epoxy.
Cindy

That's right Cindy......Garrett doesn't make one for the Sea Hunter....That means either the coil is very tough and will not wear out or Garrett Plans on selling you a new coil after the one year warranty expires.....I just hope they are very tough because I've got one in the mail...and can't wait to use it.......I may add the Marine Epoxy later....but first will see how the coil wears.....HH...Tab.
