Garrett Scorpion Gold Stinger

Hi, I am a newbie at this also have had my Scorpion Gold Stinger since July. When I hunted the beaches at the local campgrounds, I tried it in all metal mode and found I could not take a step without finding something, a pull tab or old scrap iron, popcan parts ect. so i used it in auto disc. I did not find but a few clads but it seemed to work well in either mode. The reason I bought the Stinger is, the part of Montana I live in has a very high mineral content. I went hunting nuggets in and around a creek bottem kown for gold. i used the dectecor in all metal mode, and had to manually adjust the ground balance, and after time seemed to get the hang of it. Like i say there is loads of black sand there and it worked well.I found nails and such and about a 25 cal bullet at about eight inches. I cant wait to get back out there, but this part of Mt. also has loads of snow, so i fear that it will be at least a couple months before i break it out again. once you get the hang of it I think you will like the machine good luck and HH Majik

Hi, thanks for a quick reply. I live in Yucaipa, Ca. Weather is a bit warmer out here, but you'd never know it today. Lots of rain and snow above 3500 ft. When you hunted in all metal did you manual balance it? I went to Redondo Beach a few days ago and was in motion mode and didn't find didly squat! This was the first time in a long while I used it. I've had this machine for a while but never understood it. I'm just begining to learn how to recognize a good sound from junk and a nothing sound. I read a post the other day on the Finds Garrett forum of a fellow who detects in the snow. He's talking of hunting in -20 degrees. Now there's a serious hunter or a nut. Keep me posted on how you are doing with your machine. Latter, AU Digger Dan (dig2china) :o
