Greetings,

My cousin was given a Scorpion Gold Stinger from an old prospector.

The old man gave it to him, because he is retiring and also.. (there's always a catch)... there seems to be a problem with it.

It detects just fine, and works great, aside from it going through batteries like a junkie goes through drugs. Instead of the batteries lasting 20-25 hours, it goes only a few hours.

Has anyone else had this issue, or would you perhaps know how I could solve it?

If we can get it fixed, it seems like a great detector.

Regards,

Gio

Right on, I'll pass on the no. to my cousin. :)

Yeh I've had my Scorpion for 9 months now and still have the original batts in it. I dont use it that much but they still work. I'd send it to Garrett for a tune up. Good luck!

I have one - never had a problem with it eating battery power at all.

I had a problem with a different detector doing that - turned out that from years of pulling out the batteries and putting them back, there was a little spot of wire that was rubbed off, and shorting from time to time. Taped the bald spot on the wire up with a little electrical tape and it was good to go. (it was an older detector).

But, I've had the Scorpion for 10 years, give or take, I think its had 4 battery changes in all that time. (now, we take all our batteries out when not in use for any length of time, don't know if that makes a difference or not). We have used it for hours and hours at a time, and never had to change the batteries.

Great info Bear and Mrs. Oro...

Thanks for your time.

Once he gets back from his course, I'll be all over that detector trying to get it fixed. lol
