Well I have had the chance to use both, just an opinion,I think both are the wrong color, lol reason, you drop it on the ground and they are a booger to find! I know don't drop it,I wish both had a lanyard built on there from the manufacturer,as far as performance I think the Garrett has the advantage over the minelab for the reason the Garrett you are able to turn on and go,the minelab takes a a couple seconds after turning it on to ground balance, may not be an issue for some but when I am retrieving a target I want to be able to use the pinpointer then, not have to wait. I do like the advantage of turning the sound off on the minelab, one might like being able to adjust the sensitivity, but at the same time that's just more time it takes to mess with the controls, the Garrett sensitivity can be done manually using a coin. The minelab cost much more than the Garrett,I think Garrett has better customer service than minelab, the only advantage I see in the minelab is it may not interfere with your minelab, but if you noise cancel your detector with the Garrett on 1st then it should work fine, I use a minelab 3030,whites mxt detector, but I feel like the Garrett pro is better for me. This is just my opinion! Just like an butt hole everyone has one.
