I recently purchased a Garrett Pro Pointer and have only had it out a couple of times. I love the thing but it sure runs through batteries. I have been using Energizer batteries and it only lasts maybe an hour to an hour and a half before I need to change. I am shutting it off in between searches. Is this normal for the Pro Pointers? If that is the case, I have been thinking about using re-chargables.

Any recommendations for better results would be appreciated. What do you use?

Take it back. That is totally unreasonable. They should replace it. My Cen Tec pinpointer lasts about one year on a Duracell 9v bat. Frank... hand print-2_edited-5.jpg

My Pro Pointer came with a battery and I swear it didn't last an hour even being shut off in between uses. I am going with Duracell from now on. May not make a bit of difference but in my own little mind I will feel better about it. If it doesn't last any longer, a rechargeable one will be in the near future.

It should last way longer than a couple of hours. I just changed mine after at least 150 hours of hunting. I turn it off between digs.

Should last longer than that....mine last at least 6 to 8 hunts...and that is being shut off then on...etc....

Send it back

I use rechargables. I picked up a neat little charger that does two batteries at once and I tend to swap them over after about two or three outings.

Send it back!

You should get a lot more hours than that. Call Garrett, if it's within the first 90 days, they will probably prepay shipping for you. Be careful with Duracells, some of them are shorter than the Alkaline Energizers. A short-sized battery will
cause your Pro-pointer to act up.

I bet it took me close to a year of mild hunting to kill my first battery. If you are absolutely sure that you didn't get crappy batteries each time, then you got a PP defect. martin

Must be something wrong with it. I had mine for about two weeks, same battery is still in there.

Send it back. I've had mine for a year and have only changed batteries once. I hunt every weekend and some during the week. Send it back!

That's hard to answer. It could be a PP defect but more than likely it's the battery. My batteries tend to last a long time in mine. I didn't realize the batteries are different sizes though. I learn something every day.

Send it back.

I have not tried them yet, but I've heard good things about energizer ultimate lithium batteries.
I use a 9v copper top in my vibraprobe and it lasts quite a long time.
You might have a problem there. Have you checked with Garrett yet?

Not normal. I've had mine for about 6 months now, and it still has the original battery.

If there is a lot of target mine last about 20hrs est. Something is wrong with yours. I now use Powerex nihm 9.6v @(230 mAh) rechargeables in both my Vaquero and Garrett pin pointer.
