garrett 1500 vs 505 bounty hunter!

The Garrett GTI 1500 has two tones, a normal beep and a Bell tone for higher conductive targets. However if you wanna hear sound like a strangled duck, listen to a Minelab.

I'm thinking of a 1500 as my first detector actually. Done a lot of reading on it but, more importantly, came across a guy wanting to offload it at half price. So I'm interested shall we say.

So I know its a great machine. Here's the thing though: I do want to do a good deal of cache hunting with it but I also want to creek-walk (we only have streams over here but ya get me :P ) and search for nuggets on the bedrock.

1. Would it be ok for nugget hunting? I know its not its main job at all.
2. Wrong part of forum, but do any of you ever creek-walk searching known parts of streams for nuggets?

Thanks for reading!

Oh and p.s. for all the skeptics out there, yes my current locator is a pendulum. But I would like a detector also ;D. So any GTI and creekwalking advice really really welcome.

If depth is a concern, the GTI 1500 will get better depth then your BH. I had a bounty Hunter Sharp Shooter II, very similar machine to yours. After getting the GTI 1500, I was getting a lot of targets missed by the BH. The GTI 1500's biggest difference is that it will size an object for you, an option exclusive only to Garrett. There are also a good variety of coils available for you with the GTI 1500.

Thanks guys that was helpful, i was hoping it would get alittle bit more depth, well i think ill get one this weekend and also a pin pointer

The 1500 would be a wise choice. One of the best coinshooters made with a lot more features than the BH and will get much better depth and the imaging feature will spoil you for anything else

ill.

Just remember the 2-box set-up is only available for the CX Plus and the 2500. For the GTI 1500, there is the 12.5" Imaging coil, which should handle some cache-hunting chores.

I found another use for Imaging. I swept my GTI 1500 with 9.5" coil over a partly corroded 1903 Indian Head penny, which also has a deep patina. The meter jumped around but it sized correctly as a coin. I'm going to start digging "weird signals" that Image as a coin in old areas of the local parks.

Thanks,

great info everyone. will most likely go for GTI 1500 now too

Well I finally got myself a GTI 1500 and . . . . i love it!! Very easy to use and very accurate so far. Dug up trash that it had signalled correctly for size and metal.

Looking forward to unearthing some gold caches now ;-) They're buried a lot shallower in my neck of the woods!

Thanks, as a newbie, for the superlative contributions you all make & I look forward to good times as a Garrett (and dowsing) man!

i own both the gti 1500 and the bh 505 and have tested them side by side in the field
the bh is a great machine for tot loting the depth is only about 8 inches for quarter size objects
it is bump sensitive so doing any kind of field that has high grass is out

with the gti i have found dimes at about 12 inches
used it i real heavy cover
it picks up signals missed by the 505
the target imaging is awesome but can cause you to not dig some great relices
but that's an easy fix dig every thing till you get use to the machine
the main draw back is the weight of the 1500
with the 12.5 coil it is all most twice that of the 505
there are only two coils that allow you to use the target imaging
the stock coil and the 12.5 the other coils lose this feature

Appreciate the advice on relics. Have found the GTI quite heavy also. It does 'learn' your swing speed so perhaps that helps?
