I have a Pioneer 101 and have just gotten a Garret Pinpointer Pro I have taken on about 3 outings. A lower cost detector, with the PP is well worth it. My digs go much faster with the PP. Even if you have a limited budget I suggest getting the PP, and a lower cost detector, it tremendously reduces frustration of unable being to find stuff in a 6 inch circle.

The bane of my MDing is the super-thin foil sandwiches are sometimes wrapped in. They can get to such small pieces, and dirt clings to them so well, I have much trouble finding them with my eyes. But the PP helps me zero right in on them. The only complaint I have about the PP is it's range is much greater for larger objects with more mass. I'm expecting the object to be within 2" of the PP but it turns out it's a large object actually 5" away. Be aware of this and you'll understand how the PP works better.

So for coins the pp has a range of about 2" tops.

I totally expect companies to exaggerate ranges and performance but with Garret the opposite seems to be true. My PP keeps beeping yet the object still turns out to be 5" away! Well, now I understand it, it's all good. :)

I owned a few other pinpointers before my Garrett and didn't see much use for them. The Garrett a whole different thing. Wouldn't hunt without it.

It comes with the brainwash effect. All pinpointers do the same thing. They are very elementary tools. The big difference is the price difference. I can find anything with a $16 HF pinpointer that can be found with the $160 Garret pointer. Believe it! Frank...

Well guys, till you use a TRX you won't know what you are missing.. to pinpoint exactly a coin sized target as mush as 4" deep before break ground makes for tiny little holes and a lot less time spent on your knees. My holes are now the width of my Lesche blade.. and the target is always in the center. Cost is about the same as Garrett ..$127-147 depending on the dealer. To the OP, enjoy the Pro Pointer, nothing wrong with it, it does the job, just not the top dog anymore, and the advantage to be had for virtually the same cost are not small. If they had added a VID the TRX it would be a cordless Sunray Prob..

The pin pointer comes in real handy when there are multiple targets in the hole.

Yep, you can dig a cellar hole with a hand spade or a back hoe. Both will get the job done but one will just do it better and faster. Its your choice.

Pin pointers are the best thing that's happened to detectors in the 33 years of my detecting.

Sitting on the steps of a shed, in the sun, tired of swinging for a bit, I just played with my PP running it across the ground beside the steps - a nice crisp signal - a very tiny circle, and I pop out a wheat at 3" - YEP, 3"....
