This is a brand new garrett 150, lg round of Silver is coming up as iron, 10k gold coming up as iron, 14k gold coming up as nickel, brass coming up as gold/pull tab, 1970 costa rica 50cent and modern un peso is coming up gold/pull tab, chunk of aluminum comming up silver/coin, lead weight coming up as silver/coin. Avon ring is only thing that is coming up as a ring.

I've talked with Garrett rep, she said that is suppose to work that way????!!
so why bother with the labels?

Can someone tell me what is really going on?

ii have a garrett ace 150 which is not without its faults at the moment but when i detect i discriminate against iron and use it like that, i always get a coin notification too on cans below 6 inch as the detector will get confused past certain depths but as always with detecting if you get a coin signal dig it as 5 out of 10 times it will be a coin as for rings my ring is gold and shows up as pulltab but you can discriminate this out but lol if you dig all your pulltabs you will eventually hit a ring in time. i get the same signals on mine but with the coin signal i dig every time and always hit coins, every time iv been out i always find at least one coin per 4 hour hunt which i know isnt much but it shows that the detector does work my collection is building slowly iv got 12 old pennies from 1910-1962 17 half pennies 1914-1977 1 silver shilling 1842 1 half lol victoria medallion 1887 1 bovril token 1889 3 farthings 1904-1942 numerous military buttons and these are all mostly from the same place i detect so it does work its just you have to be prepared to dig the trash and you will dig a lot but you will see the the good finds in between make it all worthwhile carry on detecting and good luck mate

here's a little secret. Your detector doesn't know what is down there!! It sends out a signal and then measures the % of the signal that is returned. It then matches this against the program in the computer that is set up based on coin size. A coin of a certain size returns a certain % of the signal. The problem is other objects also return the same % of signal and deep iron larger targets may return the same % of signal as a coin. So you see it's all guess work in the detector. When you discriminate out the bad you also discriminate a certain % of the good. Frank

Thanks, I think you answered my question. The only discrimination worthwhile is between ferrous metals with noble metals against aluminum.
