Garret 1139070 Ace 250 Metal Detector

I seen this was a good newbie starting detector, my question I know it finds gold rings and so forth, but will it pick up unrefined gold? I will mainly be shooting for coins and jewelry, but there are known nuggets in my area as well, I wouldn't mind diggin up.

It's possible if the nugget was big enough. They Ace is great on coin size targets, even on edge to about 4"-6". Flakes will probably be invisible. I did find some small fishing weights the size of a bb's though.

what about the smaller coil?

Smaller coils allow you to detect closer to metal objects like fences and playground equipment. They generally have reduced depth as a trade off.
