My Brother In Law in Washington State sent me a bag of Garnets (weight 1,000+ carats) I do not know a thing about Garnets. He collected them himself.
He is a Mountain hiking person and is always coming across different type stones.
He maps all his finds.
Anyone have any idea what they may be worth.
Man are they small.
Thanks

Dealers are selling garnet rough that will cut 1-1.5 carat stones for about $125 a kilo. There are 5 carats to the gram ,1000 carats=200 grams or 1/5 of a kilo,at that rate your 1000 carats of garnets may only be worth $25.

There are several varieties of garnets, some types are worth more than others.Of course the larger the stone ,the more per carat it is worth.

Lesser quality garnets are used to make sandpaper.

Some prices for rough stones
