Today was a fun day! We got up and hit a few sales and scored a few keepers. I picked up this art-deco/machine age desk lamp for $5. It should fetch over $40. I got this carved wooden box with a date of '52 inside it for $1, just because I liked it. Any info about it? I also picked up this old amber canning jar marked "GEO W HELME CO OF NEW JERSEY PATENTED JULY 16 1872" FOR $3. I got this art-deco set of Chase Skyway saturn salt and pepper shakers from 1939-1942 for 25cents. I picked up the clock, celt, marble bag, and pottery cat effigy?? for $112 at another sale. The walnut Ingraham clock works well, is dated 1879, and has an hourly chime, single chime on the half, and a separate alarm chime which I have yet to figure out how to set. There is one just like it on goantiques.com for $430.00. I don't think I'm selling it. My wife is of the same opinion ;D.

I'm in the Adirondacks of NY, we're supposed to get 14" of snow tomorrow (again), spring can't get here fast enough for me.

That clock is just beautiful.. nice nice score.

I'm guessing the box is from India. I had a similar one (about 4" x 6") that came from a Pier One Imports type place back in the late 60's early 70's. I don't remember a date on mine. I do remember that the price seemed completely out of proportion to the amount of work involved in all that carving.

Nice score on the clock, I believe I would be keeping it also!

Thanks! Famous Turtle, would you think the lamp would be better left as is, or should I use some steel wool and clean off the rust and give a little sheen to the copper plating on the lamp shade? I saw the same lamp sell for about $50 on ebay, but it had been freshly painted black and the inside of the shade was painted white. This would be easy to do, but not sure it would be better.

How would you title the salt shakers on ebay? You have a way with item descriptions... I've been looking at your listings :icon_thumright:. They are from 1939-42, made by chase. Art-deco/space age Chase Skyway salt & pepper shakers? I want to add saturn in there too, but not enough characters available (55 or less allowed).

I am at work now,but when I get home I will look the amber jar up in my fruit jar redbook... but I am very sure it should be a high dollar one due to color an you have orginal lid....

Wow to my surprise your jar is only worth 20-25.00.. It would be RB #1236 if you want to look it up... Ambers color usually are high dollar colors... one more thing.. your lid hold 60-80% of the whole value of the jar so make sure you don't chip. crack or bust it......

As for the rust, I would get rid of that, but the copper is another story, I would only clean that if the patina is bad / there is a lot of pitting or corrosion.

Here are some keywords that come to mind when I see those snp shakers.

chrome space age cosmic decor salt pepper shaker

art deco silver atomic planet saturn mercury

Mercury works as 2 words, the planet mercury and mercury glass. Even though they are not glass, I personally would throw that in there.

Using MFG name can be a waste of characters if the MFG is not a huge brand name but that's just a personal preference of mine.

Hope this helps, well back to packing. Ebay sales are crazy.

Thanks Creeper, I only paid $3 for it, so I'm happy. I figured it was worth $3 even if I just put it on a bookshelf.

Thanks Turtle, I will be listing them soon!
