One mans trash...

I've been poking at this one for a while now. It came from a garage sale in New Braunfels, Texas. No information came with it. It's clearly something this guy had made for the object of his affections. I find no record that Harold and Miss Beaty ever married, so maybe it didn't do the trick. Can't say if it was the hair, the vest, or the tie. or maybe the mustache. I find plenty of references to Harold W. Broome around San Angelo. Emails to an apparent relative and to a Monte Noelke who wrote a column on West Texas history have gone unanswered. Next step will probably be a phone call. It's one of those mysteries you can't let go, and if he were my ancestor, I'd like a copy of this thing. I offer it as an odd image and an ongoing investigation.
I think maybe it goes with the family mentioned in this story, which also includes the story of a Colt's six-shooter fished out of an old ranch well.

And maybe this letter from H.W. Broome on behalf of his group of singing (and working) cowboys.
