Re: Gangsta or Flare Gun ??

Looks liek a single shot - breach load flare gun... but a 9" barrel? I think flares are bigger than 1" also...

I have no idea! Pretty damn cool find!

Do you feel lucky punk? Well, do you?

Dirty Harry.jpg

Not likely it belonged to "Harry" but it looks too big for a flare gun, as Jim said. Possibly something to "shoot a line"?

Re: Gangsta or Flare Gun ??

I have found old relics out there pre 1940s. History tells me that 21 farms were bought by the US government to build the airbase of almost 2000 acres. One of the books i researched suggested some farms were started about 1850ish.

Re: Gangsta or Flare Gun ?? Update

I believe it is a Remington UMC MIII 10 ga flare gun. It should have a brass frame and it should have had walnut grips before they rotted off. One sold for $350 in good condition.

Can't find anymore info like what war, etc. Given more time I think I could get more info.

UPDATE - WWI 25,000 made between 1915 -1918 See at: http://www.collectorsfirearms.com/admin/product_details.php?itemID=4915

Re: Gangsta or Flare Gun ??

I found out this flare gun was made from 1915 to 1918 so it might have been in the ground way before the air base.Guess i will be going back for more relics. So far in one area i found hoes cast iron irons square nails and coins from 1890 to 1907....aa
