Well, I hunted for 4 hours (6:30-10:30AM) this morning. It was my second trip to Galveston this year...got a silver earring the first time. Hunted the towel line and the wet sand. It was high tide and the wind was blowing onshore, so I didn't see any reason to subject myself to the waves. I used the E-Trac about half the time, but that 12"x15" gets pretty heavy so I went with the Excal after a while. The Excal found the ring in the wet sand between the water and the seaweed...it whispered like it would when a wave goes over the coil, but it was repeatable.

Cool finds.

Question: After my divorce is final, I am looking to move from here in Virginia to Texas, probably around Kerrville (San Antonio area). Unless the ex gets my detectors, I have plans to hit the Galveston beaches. I had heard something about the beaches being off limits for detectorists....around Padre Island, maybe? Would appreciate any info. Providing the ex doesn't make me sell my detectors, I plan to keep my DFX and my Excal.

Thanks. And again, cool finds.

No problem hunting in Galveston, but the state park beaches are off limits. Let us know when/if you get down here. A lot of Texans on Dirt Journal (http://dirtjournal.com/forum/index.php).

Hey Mel, When you get here grab your detectors and come on down to Corpus Christi and lets hunt the beaches.
Padre Island National Seashore is protected and metal detectors are not allowed there.
Padre Island starts about 3 miles south of Bob Hall Pier and there are miles and miles of beach that you are allowed to hunt from there north to Port Arkansas and beyond.
Fishing is fantastic also.

Thanks will do...........provided the ex doesn't get my detectors in the settlement...LOL

I'm hoping that I will be able to hit the beaches..........l absolutely love digging up those gold rings...LOL. Unfortunately, I have already had to sell the rings I found last year........need the money for the attorney fees..... Oh well......

I'm marking this topic so that I can give you a shout when I get to Texas.
