"G" heart pin- if that's what it is...

I found this relic a while back. I thought it was a pin. Other people have told me it's a gift/love token. I thought I would ask all the experts here on TNet...

What is this?

It is about an inch across at the wide part at the top.
I believe it to be made of pewter

the silvery piece on the back is what makes me think it is a pin.
