Just wondering if others have found these things in England in their searches. I have found a number of them, at different farms where I search and just wondering what they are (were) used for...

They are not so large, about 12mm across...

No, I've found plenty of musket balls detecting in Ireland but I've never seen anything like these objects before. I won't even bother to take a wild guess because I really have no idea what they are, sorry!

Well I was hoping that someone had found one someplace. I don't really think they are lead seals, there is no lettering on them, and no place to put a string, they are totally whole things. I had thought they don't really look too old, so maybe they were used in some sort of machine for smashing things, but then again they would then not be made of lead. Could also not be fired out a gun either, they appear all new, not smashed up or anything. The farmers had never seen one.

I don't think I have ever seen a roman bag seal, does someone have a photo of one?
A other idea I had was that they are some sort of weight, not for a scale but to weigh something down, like cloth. But they are pretty heavy for light material. I have not found one I thought that was smashed up either, so you would think that they are not old.... Thanks for your ideas..

Here's a WAG for you:

Shrapnel Balls! - The American Shrapnel Shell on the left appears to have half round 'balls' - theoretically it would allow them to be packed closer together eliminating some of the wasted space of having a fully round shape stacked together.

Good guess, as the patina on them looks modern.

They are not Roman or medieval seals

That could be true, but I don't think for these objects. They are round, and half, but with a pointed tip, as you can see. They would take up just as much as a round shot I would think.
