Many seem to have trouble asking for permission, but most of the ones I detect at ask me if I could hunt their property. ;D
It's quite fun, I've had at least 3 people ask me that. And I really enjoy it.. ;)
Has this happend to you? Any stories or such? ???

I had my eye on a house for a long time and finally caught the owner outside cutting grass one evening. I stopped to ask and spent 45 minutes in conversation before I finally asked the question. Meanwhile, I discovered that we attend the same church (30 miles away!), knew many of the same people and had other things in common. When I finally told him what I stopped for, permission was enthusiastically granted. Three other old properties adjacent were volunteered to me while I searched the first property. I ended up finding quite a bit, including an 1854 Seated Liberty quarter. Had I not gotten up the courage to ask, I wouldn't have ended up with four sites to hunt AND NEW FRIENDS.

Sounds great! I am going out saturday if the weather allows it, to a house who is dated to 1300 but burned down.
Later it was rebuilt, and a guy asked my father if I would hunt his property (including the fields around the house) ;D
So hope the weather is good then, it was great today. :)
I'll send pics if possible..

I really don't have any problem asking for permission or ever being turned down .I have people who volunteer their properties and usually have way more than I can hunt. I have left notes on the front doors of properties and had the land owners call me with permission. I usually ask if I can dig old perennials on abandoned sites also...Maybe it helps that I always have two really cute little helpers with me :)
If I am hunting in a public spot ,I usually get a few people who talk to me and then offer up other spots. Been working out great for me.
One thing that does seem to work great is when I hunt near fishing holes....alot of the fishermen will start talking to me and then give me great hints on who else to ask for permission or they know of other spots.

Sometimes if you offer a split of what you find works.

aa battery: I am sure it does..but why offer a split when others don't want it? ???
This guy only wanted me to hunt his property and see my finds, thats it.

gypsyheart: Yeah, you'll never know...Maybe they are just curious.
