Funky Old Knife

I got it at a yard sale . It looks hand made , the handle is brass up by the blade & on the end .
I'm not sure what the red wafers are made of yet . How old ?

It is very solid & tight . I can't find any maker's mark .

Mojax... believe it or not you may have a diamond in disguise here.

This COULD be several things actually... all of which are good... and a great pick for 2$.

First... this could be a civil war era trench piece ... would be hard to pin down but if possible... would be worth some bucks.

Second... this could be a "file knife"... which CAN be determined by close examination... also worth a few.

Third... and the best...

This could be Native American... which could put this on the stellar level.

So...

The handle is quite comfortable to hold .It is quite a heavy knife . I plan to bring it to my friends Pawn Shop tomorrow - get his input on it . (not selling it)

I brought it to my friends Pawn Shop today . He was fascinated by it . I asked how old ? He said 1800's . I asked could id be Civil War ? He said , most definitely . Then he said '' Only if this knife could talk "

I told him my Girlfriend offered me $40.00 the other night - He offered me $50.00 - I said no . I asked him if it was OK to make the blade look nicer , or would it take away from the value . He said it would increase the value if I cleaned up the blade . I guess I'll get my Dremel tool out .
