Looks like a plate that a key would be inserted into? :-\ So a gun cabinet would be a good guess

I think Gypsy has it right although in this photo it shows that they sell Furniture, Rugs etc..

I found this. His name is Bill, Not Bob

MACKIE, William. Merchant. Res. 981 Menlo ave.; office 723 S. Hill st., Los Angeles, Cal. Born in Scotland, Nov. 9, 1863; son of James and Mary (Spark) Mackie. Married to Julia Whitman in 1904. Received his education in the public schools of Scotland. Began apprenticeship to furniture dealer in Arbroath, Scotland, in 1878, serving five years; moved to Edinburgh in 1883 and remained until 1888; moved to San Francisco and was employed by W. & J. Sloane & Co., 1888-92; moved to Los Angeles in 1904 and established the firm of Mackie-Fredericks Co., furniture deal- ers, which was later changed to Mackie-Foley Co., of which he is pres. and sole owner; vice-pres. Commonwealth Home Builders and dir. of Orange Lands Investment Co. Member Sierra Madre, Los Angeles Athletic and Olympic Gun clubs, Los Angeles; San Gabriel Valley Country Club, Pasadena; Masonic fraternity.
