Stopped at Dunkin Donuts this morning to find a "moving sale" flyer taped to the door on my way out. I noticed it was the 2nd day and about 5 mins from my house. My brother stopped by my house and we jumped in the car to head out. Got there and the people were literally moving out in a few hours and wanted EVERYTHING gone now.

The place had been picked over but there was still some decent stuff scattered about. Asked for a price on a large lot of jewelry and was told I could take it ALL for $5. Most people would ask $20-50, based on previous experiences. Ok so now its "game on" and I started asking for prices on anything I was even remotely interested in. Ended up buying the following:

-large stack of comic books (100-150 total), most in protective sleeves and hard back, almost exclusively early 90s comics, probably minimal value in the entire lot (now I remember why I avoid comic books), flea market fodder?
-Oneida sterling heirloom glass goblet (decanter?) in box
-Oneida sterling heirloom ladle (sterling) - should pay for the entire lot alone
-Marx 60's action figure, General Custer (kind of beat up)
-large bag of assorted costume jewelry, not a single piece of good jewelry in the whole lot, all junk but will still fly off the table at the flea market
-4 bottles of unopened wine, 3 are halfway decent brands, 1 is crap - gifts and/or for when company comes over
-5 gallery framed photographs by Susan V. Lockwood, 1 is hand signed/numbered - to be determined as to value

Walked out with all of the above for $45! Now that is how its done...

General Custer of the Johnny West series.

I spent thousands of hours of my childhood playing with him and all of his friends.

Looks like you did alright that bottom pic to the right looks like it's in VA nice job you must be a collector when you adding on lol

About a year and half ago I bought a box of about 200 comics at an auction. I think I paid $50 for them. Most of them were late 80s/early 90s. They were all in sleeves with backer boards and price tags so, at some point, I think these belonged to a dealer. Anyway, fortunately I found about 20 1960s vintage hot rod theme comics. Those sold on ebay for about $75. The rest of them had almost no ebay value and they were too heavy and bulky to ship so I put them on Craigslist as a lot for $50 and sold them for $40 so I only got about $0.20 each for them. There are comic junkies out there who buy them just to read I think.

My sister and I went to an auction and bought a box when she was about 12. Got home and looked through them and found some really old superman comics. I was 14 at the time andI'm not sure what was in there. But It had to be something good as my dad came home in a different car 7 model yrs newer then what we had! From a 1986 Chrysler 5th ave to a 1993 conversion van. This was 1994. To this day he won't say what they were or can't remember! We ask every Christmas what they were and if he saved one!

Nice finds. I'm sure the gallery prints weren't cheap when they were originally purchased, probably at one of her exhibitions. It appears she is a noted Va. photographer. About halfway down the page- Artists at The Bank Food and Drink | Pearisburg, Virginia You know the drill with a lot of comics. They are like 1980's -90's collector cards, not worth much. There is an occasional needle in the haystack though. Finding one is the fun part.

I'm actually dissappointed with myself on the comics because I basically know better. I have avoided buying comics up until this point. I got caught up in the moment because the sellers were basically just giving this stuff away so I just figured what the heck. Now I am stuck with these things...

BTW- Do you read estatesales.net? That sale was listed on it. There is a "private estate sale" coming up on the 22nd of March that I would gladly drive the 25-30 miles to attend if I lived where you do. I know you don't do glass and pottery but I'd be on this like white on rice. Private Estate Sale - Minotola Starts On 3/22/2014

Either come to NJ and go picking with me or stop creeping. :tongue3::laughing7:

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Creeper stopped posting on here months ago for some reason, maybe he got caught.:dontknow::laughing7:
I was researching the photographs you bought and googled this- Photography Prints Susan V Lockwood- which led to the first result at the top of the page. That's when I got nosey and started looking at sales in your area. lol
Here's what's coming up in my neighborhood this weekend- Estate Sales in Miami / Fort Lauderdale / West Palm Beach, FL

I'm in Hollywood.

Yea, that one in Minotola is not far from me. It's funny because I know the area well but I have never heard that particular town name used before. To me I would call it "Buena, NJ". I called up my friend/mentor who knows glass/pottery, etc. He actually said he doesnt want to go to that sale. Oh well. I might have to try using that site occasionally. My style is more drive around areas that have produced well in the past and follow signs. If I know of town wides, I always hit those. Sometimes I grab leads off CL and then cruise those neighborhoods looking for more.
