I'll be going to the Ft Walton beach FL area in about a month and staying on Navarre Beach. Are there any key areas I should be focused on MD'ing? I've never been there to MD before, I believe I read that you cannot MD in the Beach State Park, or AFB (E and W of Navarre Beach) right?

Has anyone ever searched the submerged Crab Island where everyone pulls their boats up on for festivities?

Plan on being there during the Billy Bowlegs festival and the week after, should be lots of "goodies" left behind by the pirates...hehehe.

Let me know.

I have hunted in Destin, Ft. Walton, Navarre areas. The park west of Navarre is a national seashore and not a State Park. Hunting there is off limits as is the AFB areas. Hunting is open on all public beaches in the area, just not on the Dune's or in the Sea Oats.

I hunted the party area once. Tons of trash there. All those folks are dropping all their cans, pull tabs, screw caps, etc. No trash cans needed when they can just drop it in the water below them. There are millions of pieces of that stuff laying around. You can't make any progress finding gold for it because of so many pieces of aliminum of various shapes that mimick gold signals.

The beaches are in good shape, the water is beautiful. The sharks are mean! Stay out of the water at dusk and dawn. Feeding time!

Good place to water hunt is the east side of the Ft. Walton Pier about 100 yards down. Walk in the water and feel for a depression or sunken area, (Trough). The water is so clear you can usually see them. That is where the stuff is and they close and reopen based on the current and wave action.

Many many public beaches in the area. All are pretty good in the dry. The water is iffy depending on the population of the beaches which right now isn't really high.

They JUST finished the beach reloading project. Something like a trillion tons of sand pumped from out at sea. The beaches are pre Issac pretty again. The towel zone this time of year on the beach right straight off the beach access area is the place this time of year. http://www.mywavecam.com Also further down JUST west of the old fishing pier. Usually there are blue beach umbrellas and tents there. http://www.navarrebeachlife.com That's where the condo and the high end hotel people park their butts.

If you want a great lunch head to cocodries, right off the bridge. Have a blast! That's where I'm moving June 28th :D
