Fruit jar/mason jar lid?

Found this attached to the top rim of a broken fruit/mason jar today. Vaguely looks familiar but am not entirely sure exactly what it is and was used for. Hopefully somebody out there knows. Thanks.

I'm guessing some sort of holder, such as what might come from a BBQ grill. I've seen wire setups for holding tin cans and such. Maybe this is from an older grill?

Possibly a grease trap drain holder for mason jar from a grill.

I believe it came from an old kerosene cook stove. It held a large jar but I can't remember why.

Was suggested that it might be an old fruit strainer for the top of a mason/fruit jar. Have found many fruit/mason jars, glass and metal lids, and the like in the area circa 1800s-1900s.
