In my limited experience, I seem to find more coins/jewelry in the front yard of older city house lots than I do in the back yard. The back yard usually has the junk and the toys (which makes sense), but the coins are few. The front yard even outproduces the area around the garages for me.

What has your experience been? Front or back?

I've found more coins in the front yard and in the area close to the street and driveways-where people get in and out of cars. The backyards are usually littered with foil and pull tabs from barbecues and parties and the occasional Matchbox type car.

Front yards and side yards are usually good for me,,and under clothes lines......

I guess front yards are better producers since that is where people tend to get together to chat about the day. Even today my relatives sit on the front porch when people come over to visit.

The front yards are definately more consistent, but if you get a good backyard, it can be REALLY good.

Good point teverly,I believe that clothes lines are some of the most underestimated areas to search MD'ing,I always search them when given the chance.

I'd have to say the front yard is usually where most of the coins end up at. From the early times of street vendors on up to the milk man and newspaper carrier from a few years ago right on up to the ice cream man who might still show up in front of the house. I most cases any paying or receiving of money and change took place in the front and around the front door. I've found many of coins right around the front door areas where the coin might have been dropped and rolled away to be found later. But anything at anyplace is always possible.
