I dug this ring last week. Despite the appearance - it is silver not gold. When I detected it, it showed as a half dollar, which is about right given its weight and size. I included a half in a picture for sizing.

Anyway, I looked on eBay and couldn't find anything similar...mostly just ads selling new rings. Anyone know if this is WWII era, Korea, Vietnam, other.

Thanks for your help.

Is it marked sterling or 925 on the inside? Breezie

US Army service ring with the same Army Eagle on both sides, so with that, this ring doesn't appear to have been customized or special ordered. Time period....good question. You can get them today with same eagle on it.

The ring is not marked except for the deeply marked initials D. B I don't know if that is the original purchaser's initials or the manufacturer. It has no purity marking although it could have worn off as lottarocks suggests. It rings up solidly in the silver section of my display as a half dollar so I have to believe it is silver from that evidence and the toning on the metal.

I attached a better picture to show the wear inside the band.

Thanks for your replies.

Nice find. You could get that same ring in the 60's. They could be bought at the PX. Tony

It's original, WWI or WWII (i believe) the D.B. inside is the mark for D.B. STERLING and it should be 10K gold Filled but also could just be sterling too....

Lookup "D.B." on this page: http://www.snyderstreasures.com/pages/rings.htm

I'll find the exact one and post it when I find it to figure out a more exact time frame, yours is in what looks like nice condition, still has the stone intact (some later rings on ebay for sale don't), and depending on the time frame it could be when silver (if silver) was more scarce...if 10K gold...even better (prob. why it's detecting as a half dollar)

Here is one without the stone on ebay, bad condition w/ a clear D.B. marking: Item 390149480466

Thanks for your help lottarocks...the web page you referenced is very cool, and I am leaning towards believing that the D.B. on the inside of the ring is what's left of a hallmark from Dolan and Bullock (apparently a well known jeweler...primarily of silver items). I guess the ring is too common to definitively date it...I guess I will assume it is pre-70's era and throw in the towel on a more precise age unless someone else checks in. That is unless D.B. Cooper comes forward to claim the ring and tell us when he purchased it :laughing7:

Thanks to all for your help and comments.
