Good one PaleoHunter Yea what you said a bit of a chipped hoe scraper preform celt thing is it bi- facial? I think they would have started with a spall core and worked it down, use it a bit ,chip some more use it as toolage, then more chipping and retouching to find its pourpose and worthy material .After serving many lifes finally morphed the heart of the core until its small enough for the knappers magic desired projectile since it has proved itself so far wouldn't be wise to hunt for dinner with a inferior material the difference between going hungry maybe life or death .Whats pictured appears to be in the hide handling stage the top the working edge and the bottom placed in palm like you have done for pushing. Try this I am curious put your right thumb in the left inclusion fingers near top and hold on flat surafce lift bottom wich is in your palm about 20 degrees and push down and forward like fleshing a hide motion hows she fit ? keep in mind a squaw would likely be useing it with a smaller hand, fleshing is a greasy slippery process handholds and rind surface traction on hand tool would ease the job I think multiple tools would also have been needed for the task might explain why so many scrapers are found .
