I assume this is the place to post when your new to the sight. OK. I live in Charleston South Carolina and am looking for my first metal detector. I have been in love with history for as long as i can remember. And living in charleston all my life i have plenty of inspiration. I am looking for advice on the best "beginner" detector at a reasonable price. I know that is a commonly asked question and one that is filled with opinions but i have to ask. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Best advice, purchase a entry level detector from any of the major 4 and swing away. You will know soon if it is for you.

White's-Garrett-Tesoro-Fisher....It does not matter which one....They are all entry level and do the same job. Things change when you start to up grade...

any of the machines are good at entry level. I grew up using Garrett. A family member once had a Garrett business so I am biased. (still swinging Garrett). and grab a pro pointer. worth the $$$ just my opinion. welcome to the hobby and good luck! stop by the forums often and post some pics when you get rolling. A bad day detecting is better than...well almost anything. Cheers!

Whites are good also. Welcome to the forum and I'm sure you will find some great relics in your area.

I think I'm leaning towards the garrett ace 250 to start. Seems like a good starter. We have so much history here in Charleston. I live 30 sec. away from where the first shots of the civil war were shot! In one of the oldest cities in the United states. Are there many people who have dig in charleston?

Welcome from N. Mississippi. You will like this sport and you will get a lot of support on this forum.detector 8.jpg

It appears that everyone is very friendly and have proven to be helpful already. I look forward to the fun.

Welcome from Myrtle Beach!!! Find us some locations down there and I have a Fisher you can use!!!! Ready to find some relics!!!!

HELLOOOO !! anybody out there? New England Noob, NW CT. My name is John and I dig old stuff! Or plan to... My Sister let me use a MD she bought and never used, a $80 Barska Pro? As low end as it gets, but it works! My House was built in 1910 and the back corner of the Lot was used for dumping Glass and Metal, as I had found some old corked Bottles and stuff back there Yrs ago that's where I headed.
Really enjoy this Site and was inspired by your Posts to the point that I can't stop thinking about places around here that I want to search!
By the way the cheap-o detector picked up on many Nails, an old Jar Lid and a 1907 Indian Head Penny!! ( Maybe I'll just keep using this MD... (( : )
