I was going through the threads and found a pic submitted by "TheCannonBallGuy" which shows a couple sword scabbards and supporting hardware.

The snap clip on the scabbard is identical to one I found in a location that coughed up LC's as early as 1823 and other coins as late as 1875.
I was wondering if the snap clip had a sole purpose as hardware for a scabbard or was it multi-purpose.

Thanks

it's whole purpose was for the scabbard, but not telling if someone decided to use it for something else.

It's 100% off a scabbard though, good find.

There are a lot of different clips of that type, for a lot of different uses. Yours is ornate enough that I'd say it's a good chance it was a sword hanger.

Thanks gsxraddict and Nola_Ken. I was hoping to hear that.
Looking forward to searching the location again if the property owner will let me.
Marking it solved but welcome any additional comments....
