Went to mom and dad's for Easter dinner.
While I was there I took some shots of his frog pipe he found in 1993.
We took it to the museum to show the archys and they showed us drawers full of similar pipes.
Most had eyes or detailed limbs but all were in this crouching shape.
I think it is made of sandstone and is 9 1/2 inches long by 3 1/4 wide.
My dad has 2 other pipes but not near as nice.

Awsome pipe your Dad found! I have never found a whole one. Maybe the archys would share a drawer or two?? haha Nice hunt and Happy Easter.

Really cool find Jonzer. It's definitely a classic block style sandstone pipe that seemed to be favored in the Spoon and Illinois River Valleys. A friend of mine has a similar one with a human face that was found in Fulton County as well. Thanks for the pics, I've been waiting to see a shot of that guy.

There in lies the problem, we can not legally pick up an artifact except from private property, because it is against the law and where do they keep hundreds and hundreds of thousands of the artifacts they find or people have given them that they found, in drawers and boxes locked up and stored away, no where for public viewing.

By the way Nice pipe.....

That's funny. My dad literally did trip over that pipe.
He threw it to the side of the field first thinking it was a brick.
He saw one hole and picked it back up.

Is it possible that this pipe was drilled and the shaping started but never finished?
