Hey all,
Had a few fellow T'neters over at my place this morning and we hit my ATV trails. I had Bergie, Earthworks, Mountainman 2, and Bluezman over. Goldfever and a friend of his were supposed to come but something must have came up. Thanks to these guys I have a better understanding of my site and some of the things there that were puzzling me. Earthworks gave me an indication on where he thinks the house was and it does sound reasonable to me. He really put tyhe point across when he was digging by this concrete section and came up with a pratically whole bottle! Just a few chips of the mouth of it. The mold seam does not go all the way up the side of it so I think that means it is fairly old. Had a stopper top to the looks of it. He left it for me and I appreciate it...thanks again Earthworks.
Mountainman 2 found a well or privy that I had never even seen before when up at this site. There is a huge depression up at the top of this hill that I always thought was a old cellar hole and sure enough MM2 spots the well throught the shrubbery across the trail from this depression. Him, Earthworks and Bergie decided to hit this area first off.
Bluezman ad myself went down towards the site that I had found a few coins and pottery shards...speaking of pottery shards, earthworks also found a clay pipe stem piece on the ground while I was showing them around. Anyway me and bluezman (or is it bluezman and I) went to work around what I think was the trash pit. Eventually we all just walked around detecting different areas because there was so much land to cover. Bluezman came up with a few clad coins and the faceplate of an old lock. His pic is the stuff in his hand.
Bergie came up with some clad also and a 1946 silver quarter. He also came up with an old button that had a flower design on the face and the word "COLOUR" on the back. Might have been other words but to hard to tell until cleaned. Earthworks came up with the bottle and part of a thermometer or oven part. It had some temps on it and said it was from "Watertown Thermometer Co. Watertown, NY".
Mountainman 2 came out of there with a flat button with the shank still on it and also some kind of pin or something that is in the shape of a shield. After cleaning it a design could be seen on the face of it. Needs more cleaning to determine what the design is or identifying I think.
Yours truly didn't find much of anything really, was just walking around seeing how they were all doing and helping if I could. I did come up with a strange hook thing that I will post in the "what is it" section.
ANyway the weather was great and we hit the place pretty hard but it still need more taken to to get the finds out of there. These guys went home with some nice and interesting things and I'm sure they had a good time...I know I did.
Enjoy the pics and happy hunting!
