Hey all Wicka here, :hello:
So I went to my dump bank a week or two ago and asked the teller to save anything interesting that passes through. Because she gave me a silver dime that day. And went today and asked if she found anything. She said yep I got some half dollars someone dropped off. $3 worth. All 6 are 40%ers!!!! I love this teller!!
Doesnt hurt to ask. :) :)

Great news! I am always worried about asking tellers to save stuff, in case they start keeping it for themselves. I'll have to figure out a good way...

Awesome job! You are super lucky to have a teller like that! Send her our way!!

awesome!! i just blew through $1,000 in halves for a lonely 1967.

banks never have loose halves in their trays, I always get the "somebody just bought them all" thing, and when i do get anything, it is 1-2 loose and always junk.
I spent $3 and got 6 40%'ers ;) Check Trays not Boxes :D

That's awesome, I always ask for halves but have not asked any to save them for me. Great idea!

Nice! She may know about pre 1964, and is saving those for you not knowing they are 40% silver. But in your case hopefully not. Nice Score!

I think she does know, because last time I was there she gave me a 1954 silver dime, she asked if I collect for the silver. And today I asked,
"Got anything good for me?"
I got 3$ in halves, nothing old though,-she reads the dates to me-, "1965, 1967...."
:O Yeah I'll take em!
>:)
I don't think she knows about 40%'ers ;)
Wicka! :D

The tellers aren't aware of 40% halves because when the traveling gold and silver buyers show up, they want 90%. Believe me, around here the cash for gold people set up shop in the bank, with advertisement, and prey on the elderly, and just plain clueless.

Not around here :P

How bets should a CRH get in good with tellers and let them know what you look for without turning the teller into a CRH? I know at once branch I dump at the manager has all the tellers trained to look for silver for him to pocket so I dont want all my picks getting setup like that. i thought about a flyer they can pin up and offering to buy not only "old" coins but foreign coins, semi-collectables, etc.

You can ask the tellers to hold all pre-1965 dimes, quarters, halves, and dollars. you will miss war nickels, but it's the best solution I can think of.

They don't usually check every date. I asked her if she has the tray and sees a silver edge just pick it for me, also all halves, interesting, and old coins.

I've never seen that before, only see the random carts at the mall and jewelry stores w their buy gold/silver signs. So banks actually let them solicit on premises?

See I been asking and while pretty slwo at most they act like "oh yeah I'm going to look at coins for you", even when I mentioned good finds will be rewarded with boxes of tasty treats and the like.
