We were meant to have a day off for detecting today, but only actually got the afternoon, but better than nothing. 😆… a very sunny but very cold day out there just 3 degrees! But as an added bonus this plane flew past… unbelievably quiet and so low, I sure if I had a better camera I could have seen in the cockpit 😳 xx

got a nice chunky buckle, then a lead stylus, a patterned piece, musket ball a a tiny lid, part of a Roman Fibula brooch and piece of plate, 3 buttons, parts of a crotal bell, big chunky toasted pre dec coin, a token and 2 token/coins…

and tomorrow we get to do it all again 😎 xx

Well that's a respectable amount of recoveries for a chilly hunt.
Well done on the buckle, Fibula, and tokens.
Fun trying to ID them.
Best of luck on tomorrow's hunt,

May the sun shine warmly
The breezes stay low.
May the finds will be many
So they'll make you glow.

That is a low flying plane...you must be near an airport or a military base? Was curious if himself was able to restore some of the Roman "scrappies" from past recoveries....I recall that was something himself wanted to attempt....love your posts!

Great finds... AGAIN! You two have some great hunting places. Love the pictures... AGAIN! Keeping us inform of your finds and you hunting areas! Thanks for all that!

(When are you going to get your next Basset Hound? How can you live without one!) :laughing7:

Scratching about yet again amongst the ancient relics!
Nice haul. danged nice haul.

What species are the nearly coppiced , but hard pruned trees of the hedge?
the effect is interesting for screening and windbreak.

And perhaps for locating a discarded bustle.
[If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
And there's still time to change the road you're on]

Congrats!

thanks for sharing your finds and really appreciate those nice pictures. Its truly amazing to see you uncover the historical details

Congrats on the great finds !

You can bring out more detail on old Copper Coins, Tokens and Relics with "Andres Pencils".
If you don't already have a set you can buy them on the internet for less than $20.00.
Museums use them and I use mine all the time on old Copper's ,Tokens, etc. - they work great !

Good Hunting !

It certainly was low, I think there are still quite a few military bases around here, RAF Cranwell is about 13 miles from here. He is doing ok on the Romans actually, he has got the hang of cleaning them, we have taken the ones we found at the barn field in the summer to the FLO .., so hopefully will get ids back, will post them on here when we get them back! xx

Ah thanks RC xx apparently they are hawthorn hedges ! That track (on the other side of said hedge) according to old maps, was the start of the drive way to the old Race Course… was hoping to find a gamblers stash under it 😆 Xx here is the old map… track just below the yellow line… red squiggle is where i was standing! xx ps. Red squiggle is not to scale 😆 xx
